The month of February is a very special month, especially for Alamo Heights Junior School. See how the students and staff are celebrating Black History Month both online and in school!

Mr. Boylan and Sra. Acosta are working hard to recognize the history and explore some African American figures. “We’re working to try to bring more awareness to what Black History Month is and the history around it,” Sra. Acosta says as she shares her goals for the school during this month. “I put up bulletin boards showcasing some really famous African Americans who had an impact on our society.” These boards are displayed outside of her classroom and they look great!

If you are not a student at our school and wonder where else you can find these displays, you’re in luck! “Mr. Boylan and I are working to do something with the podcasts as well as dispersing the information online,” Sra. Acosta mentions. The junior school has many great online resources such as Mule Time Media’s addition on Spotify and Muletimemedia.com, so make sure to check those out this month!

Lots of places and people celebrate Black History Month, so what makes the junior school special, and how can this spread further? “Right now it’s kind of small, and so I’m hoping that people will catch onto it and want to do their own part,” she says. “One person can’t do a lot, but little by little, I hope we all come together, and then it becomes a more powerful thing.” Sra. Acosta mentions enthusiastically. Lots of things follow this statement: one person is small, but if you plant the seed, it can all fall together. So, I challenge you to learn something about this special month and check out the junior school’s awesome displays for Black History Month!
