Many students have food allergies or need special diets for health or religious reasons. Our school district, Alamo Heights Independent School District (ISD), works hard to make sure these students are safe and have good food to eat.
At Alamo Heights ISD, the Nutrition Services team talks with families and school nurses to learn about each student’s allergies. This helps them make special meal plans that keep students safe. Parents can tell the school about allergies when they sign up for meals, so the cafeteria knows what foods to avoid.
The Nutrition Services website said, “Our main goal is to give all students healthy meals they can eat safely. We work with doctors and parents to make sure meals are right for each student.” They also take care to keep allergy-causing foods separate so students don’t accidentally eat something harmful.
The school trains cafeteria workers and staff to understand allergies and what to do in an emergency. They also share information with families so everyone knows how allergies are handled at school.
For students who need special diets for other reasons, like gluten-free or religious food rules, the school offers options as well. Families are encouraged to tell the school about these needs early so the Nutrition Services team can prepare meals that work for them.
Alamo Heights ISD also makes it easy for families to manage meal accounts online, like setting up snack permissions or automatic payments.
With food allergies becoming more common, Alamo Heights ISD shows how important it is to be careful and caring. By working together, schools can make sure every student has safe and healthy food to enjoy.
