Alamo Heights Junior School’s volleyball teams have shown impressive dedication and skill throughout the season, led by their committed coaches. The Blue and Gold teams, coached by Coach Tacker, Coach Burpo, and Coach Jupe, have worked tirelessly to perfect their game. With hard practices and a focused mindset, they were ready to compete in the end-of-year tournament. This article highlights the teamwork, strategies, and preparation that have contributed to the teams’ successful season.

The coaches for the teams are Coach Tacker for the A team, Coach Burpo for the B team, and Coach Jupe for the C team. The Blue and Gold teams recorded an impressive 6-3 season record, with a solid 0-1 finish in the end-of-year tournament. They practiced hard for the end-of-year tournament to win the bracket. The bracket was a single-elimination tournament.

The players are ready. They have prepared hard, and they are dedicated. “Blue and Gold practice before school, starting at 7:45 through the class period.”

“We run it pretty much in a routine. They know how to do their dynamic stretches,” said Coach Tacker.

“For 7th grade, our focus is on fundamentals and developing skills,” states Coach Tacker. The coaches focus on essential skills, including serving, passing correctly, home base, and free and serve receive.

“During White team practice, we focus on different skills for volleyball each day,” said Coach Jupe. “We do a lot of serving and a lot of passing,” explained Coach Tacker. “We play on Thursdays before Blue and Gold teams play.” It is an intra-squad match between the teams. “We play for 30 minutes and keep a running score,” stated Coach Jupe. The White team plays against each other. The White team plays a lot together. They play against each other during games, practice, and other activities.


The hard work and determination of the Blue and Gold teams, along with the focused coaching staff, have made this volleyball season a memorable one. With an emphasis on fundamental skills, team dynamics, and strong preparation, the players have shown growth both individually and as a team. As they continue to build on their experiences, the players and coaches alike are excited for what the future holds, knowing that their teamwork and dedication will guide them to even greater success in the seasons to come.
