There is a new concession stand at Alamo Heights! Students have been serving spectators at athletic events hot meals and sweet treats.

Alamo Heights students love the concession stand. When asked about it, one student, Matthew Hoberman (Mule Time Media member), said, “I think that the concession stand is a great addition to the sports games.” The concession stand has become a popular spot for students and parents to grab amazing snacks during games.

The concession stand isn’t just a way to feed people at events—it also gives back to the school. Coach Tacker, sponsor of the concession stand and a girls’ coach at Alamo Heights, said, “The money raised at the concession stand goes to different organizations around the school.” This initiative helps support the school’s extracurricular activities.

Matthew Hoberman also shared additional thoughts: “The concession stand is an amazing way that the school gets more money while making people more happy at games.” Before the concession stand, athletic events felt like something was missing, but now spectators can enjoy the games while staying happy and fed.

When considering the concession stand, it’s important to think about the volunteers, too. Students gain valuable skills through their participation. Coach Tacker explained, “They can learn how to count change and use a POS system.”

The concession stand has had a significant impact on the school. When asked about this, Coach Tacker said, “I think it builds community, and students enjoy it.”

To run an efficient concession stand, the right number of volunteers is crucial. Coach Tacker said, “We aim to have one adult and two students per time slot.” This setup allows students to learn how to use the POS system and count change while ensuring an adult is present to keep them on task.

The concession stand has become an essential part of the school community. It teaches volunteers valuable life skills and enhances athletic events for everyone.
