A remarkable achievement comes from Mahalia Hudson, a student at Alamo Heights Junior School, who won first place for best writing in the Battle of Flowers competition.
Mahalia shared with us how she made her article stand out. “When writing my article, I had to dig for more information to make it more appealing,” she explained. Mahalia spent time ensuring her article was both fascinating and worth reading.
“My teacher was very encouraging,” Mahalia said. Her teacher supported her, helping her to create her best work and providing the guidance she needed.
It’s clear that Mahalia put her best effort into making her article interesting and attention-grabbing. She also admitted to having some doubts: “I definitely had doubts. On one hand, I was like, ‘Should I even submit it?’ and on the other, ‘What if I don’t even get a place?’ So I really wasn’t sure if I should have written the article at all.”
Despite her doubts, Mahalia’s dedication and hard work paid off with her well-deserved first-place win.
