This year, the teachers are starting to use a new technology device called “Lightspeed”.  Teachers from all over the Alamo Heights Junior School are saying it’s very beneficial to them. How do teachers use this? Let’s see what we can learn about this important tool.

How Teachers Use It

For us to have a better understanding at what the purpose of Lightspeed is, we have Mr. Grenier, who works under the Lightspeed Company. Mr. Grenier explains to us the purpose of the Lightspeed app in this next quote,

“There is a Lightspeed Classroom, which is a tool where it allows teachers to be able to monitor students’ Chromebooks, so they can see and limit websites or the number of tabs the students are able to have open”.

The teachers use this app in their classrooms to monitor students’ Chromebooks and to limit the number of websites the students have, “making them not having the temptation for going out of the Google Classroom, even shutting down the internet for them if they ever get distracted”, as Mr. Grenier said in another quote. 

Another fact that students might learn from this important tool is  when a teacher gets a new student, the Lightspeed app can now automatically add the student. Mr. Grenier explains it for us,

“For example, if you have a new student tomorrow, it automatically adds it to the class and the teacher doesn’t have to go out or do something like a join code”.

All students might have a temptation to go out of the assignment they are supposed to do. They need to keep in mind that they have to learn to stay in their assigned work, finish it, and then find something quiet to work on or read a book, while their teacher finds something for them to work on. 

While the Lightspeed app might be annoying to some students, they have to understand that the app is there for the students to know that the teachers will be monitoring every single computer in the classroom. This tool can be beneficial to both teachers and students, which is making the class easier to teach for the teacher.
