A new head football coach has been named at AHHS; his name is Rodolfo “Rudy” Nerio. He is happy to be appointed the honor, stating, “Getting this job feels like a dream come true. I feel like Alamo Heights is my dream job, and there is no other place I would rather be the head coach of than Heights.” He believes his work ethic and determination have made this dream possible for him.
How He Got Here
Coach Rodolfo originally coached at Brandeis High School for a total of six seasons before he came to Heights. He stated, “My head coach left for another school in Dallas, and I was the interim head coach for a while, but the job just didn’t really work out for me. So, Coach Rittiman called me and said that he had an opportunity at Heights and would like me to come down for an interview. When I came, I saw the future here and I thought it would be a great opportunity, so that’s how I ended up here.” He was really happy with Heights and realized how truly great of an opportunity it was.
Goals For the Season
Coach Nerio said he had several goals for the season, but he had one main objective. He said he hoped to really exercise the “Heights Way” in players by ensuring they are respectful and hardworking both on and off the football field. He hopes to do this by demonstrating respect to both coaches and players and rewarding hard work. He hopes doing these two things will help shape players into respectful and good young men.
What He’s Looking For
Coach Nerio really values whom he puts on the team, so he mainly looks for two things. He stated, “I am always looking for two things: a hard work ethic and a good attitude. I don’t want players who are lazy and negative because they won’t get better, and they won’t be able to handle bad situations if they are so negative. However, if they are hardworking, I believe they will strive to get better, and if we are ever down in a game, their positive attitudes will bring us right back to victory.” He hopes these qualities are abundant so he can build a strong team around them.
A Message to Future Players
The coach is eager to lead future players. He stated how he is very pumped and excited to coach them. He also wants to see players eager to come play at Heights and to put in the effort for football by coming to camps and making a public appearance in Heights. He and all the staff at the high school are excited for new, hardworking players to join the team in the future.
