The Peanut Butter Bowl has been going on at Alamo Heights Junior School (AHJS) for about ten years. This is the second year of participation under the leadership of Principal Dr. Stuart Guthrie. The Peanut Butter Bowl is a small competition between Alamo Heights ISD and other school districts in the area to see who can donate the most peanut butter. However, even if one school raises more, it will still be a success because everyone did their part in donating peanut butter.

Alamo Heights High School students joined AHJS to promote The Peanut Butter Bowl.

AHJS supports the Peanut Butter Bowl because there are families in San Antonio who are food insecure, meaning they don’t always have food, and when they do, it may not be a lot. The Peanut Butter Bowl helps those families by collecting donations of peanut butter from students. Dr. Guthrie says he thinks the Peanut Butter Bowl is already guaranteed to be a success this year because “we as a community have already proven that we are a community that supports ourselves inside and outside our district.”

Last year, AHJS filled two big buckets with jars of peanut butter—so much that one bucket broke under the weight!

The Peanut Butter Bowl ends on September 20th, so the next time you’re at the store, pick up extra peanut butter to bring to AHJS. H-E-B has a section just for peanut butter, and they help AHJS as a community by highlighting this section. Even if you donate just one jar of peanut butter, you will have helped those who need food.
