Fred Kingman, a key player on the Gold Team basketball roster, plays a big role both during practices and in games. Everyone appreciates having Fred on the team, and basketball has made a significant impact on his life.
“My dad taught me when I was younger, and in about first or second grade, um, I played Factory of Champions, and I just started playing,” Fred Kingman explained. Fred began his basketball journey at The Factory of Champions, but his career doesn’t stop there.
Now playing for the middle school Gold basketball team, Fred focuses on specific details to improve his skills as a player. “I like to play good defense and make good passes and not turn the ball over,” Fred said. While he practices many things, he has a particular spot on the court where he shines the most.
“Um, the three-point line, I’d say. I’m a good three-point shooter,” Fred shared. However, Fred doesn’t improve on his own—he credits his team and their daily practice routines for helping him get better.
Fred described their practices, saying, “We do layup lines and take shots. We also do dribbling drills and more layups.” These drills aren’t just for fun; they play a crucial role in developing his skills.
There’s a reason the team focuses on these specific drills. “It helps you get ready to play and helps warm up your body. It gets you in the mode to play,” Fred mentioned. He recognizes that consistent practice helps both him and the team perform better during games.
Fred also acknowledges the contributions of his teammates. “They all play a part on the team—Rory, Jake, and pretty much everyone,” Fred added. “They’re very selfless, and they pass the ball and play good defense.”
Still, Fred believes there’s always room for improvement. “I think getting more steals on defense and making more shots,” Fred concluded. He is constantly looking for ways to grow and help his team become stronger.
For Fred, basketball is a big part of his life, and it shows on and off the court. His coaches and teammates appreciate his role, effort, and support. From learning the basics with his dad to becoming an essential part of his team, Fred’s basketball career continues to grow and shine.
