Theater is a very social class—you are always working on something with your fellow classmates. Being able to interact with students makes theater an enjoyable experience. Each student enjoys different aspects of the class, and I had the opportunity to hear from Mrs. Bynum about what she observes from her students.
New students in theater class have to adjust to this new hobby. “We have several students who are new to theater this year. They’re adjusting well—some were a little nervous at first, but they’re learning to act confidently and are really starting to enjoy the process,” Mrs. Bynum stated.
Theater is a passionate class where students bond over a lot of different things. “Through our Passion Project, students get to explore anything they want related to theater. This freedom has helped them collaborate, share ideas, and connect over their creativity,” Mrs. Bynum explained.
Next, I asked Mrs. Bynum if the students were nervous about their first play.
“Yes, absolutely! But we work through the nerves together, and by the time they step on stage, they feel much more confident.” It’s always a good sign if you’re nervous because that means you care.
Mrs. Bynum hopes her students will continue their journey in theater, and so far this year, the theater veterans are doing great. “The 7th and 8th graders have found a passion for it. They love the creative expression, teamwork, and the excitement of performing. Many of them enjoy the challenge of taking on bigger roles and improving their skills each year.”
Mrs. Bynum cares deeply about all her students. For this reason, the 6th-grade students are learning a lot about theater and are progressing rapidly.
“They’re doing great! They came in with no inhibitions, tackled their first performance successfully, and are already working on their second,” Mrs. Bynum proclaimed. She is dedicated to developing her students into the best actors or designers they can be.
Theater is a highly engaging class. Students become attached to the spotlight, and that’s why so many love it. Mrs. Bynum is excited to teach the next wave of theater students and help them discover a passion for what she loves.
