The annual Kickoff Picnic brought together players, cheerleaders, families, and fans to celebrate the start of a new season. With food, games, and plenty of team spirit, it was the perfect way to kick things off.
This year’s picnic felt different—in the best way possible. Students, families, and community members came together, creating an atmosphere that was both lively and fun. Coach Tacker shared her excitement: “I think this year, with the added food, decorations, and silent auction, it felt more like a true community kickoff. We had a lot of students there, a lot of community members—it just felt more fun.” She added, “With the new silent auction, we raised the most money since I’ve been here!” Among the most popular auction items were signed jerseys and VIP tickets to home games, which helped boost fundraising efforts even further.
The picnic wasn’t just about celebrating the start of the season; it was also an opportunity to strengthen the community. One of the highlights was the way it brought families together and gave them a chance to learn more about the school’s activities. “The picnic is just something fun that gets all the parents out and lets them see more of what’s going on at school, not just what their own child might be part of,” said Coach Jupe.
While the coaching staff worked hard to make the event a success, the real backbone of the picnic was the Junior Mules PTO, led by a dedicated group of parents. Their hard work and organization transformed what could have been just another school event into a genuine celebration of the entire community.
Looking ahead to the season, Coach Tacker reflected on the importance of effort and attitude. “I think with practice, we can make sure the things we can control—like our work ethic and our attitude—we’re doing to the best of our abilities.” This mindset, she believes, will help build a strong foundation for the team. But it’s not just about the athletes. As Coach Jupe explained, parents play an equally crucial role in supporting school spirit and the success of the team: “Even if their daughter or son doesn’t make the team, showing up to a game, cheering in the stands, and wearing school colors is a simple way to support classmates and the community.”
The season ahead is packed with exciting sports, each adding its own flavor to the calendar. “Football and volleyball have already kicked off. Cross country will begin in just a few weeks, followed by girls’ and boys’ basketball. Then, tennis, track, and golf will get started, with girls’ and boys’ soccer closing out the year,” Coach Tacker explained.
As the picnic came to a close, the excitement for the season ahead was palpable. The event wasn’t just about the games—it was about coming together as a community to support the athletes and celebrate the spirit of teamwork. The afternoon served as a reminder that the true heart of the season lies in the connections we build, on and off the field. It wasn’t just an event; it was the true beginning of a season full of promise, passion, and community support.
