Dogs and cats are a big part of our lives, and they are among the most common and beloved pets in households everywhere. At our school, even dogs and cats can be recognized and celebrated on special days throughout the year. This past October, Alamo Heights Junior School organized a special day where dogs and cats were welcome to join us during The Junior School morning drop-off routine. Pet owners could bring their pets and let them stick their heads out of car windows while we took memorable photos of them.
This year marked the very first time Alamo Heights Junior School has hosted this event. The Junior School’s principal, Dr. Guthrie, came up with this creative idea after noticing all the dogs waiting in cars with their families each morning during drop-off. He realized that these beloved pets deserved their moment to shine and be recognized.
During the school’s October pet photo event, The Junior School was delighted to have a fantastic turnout of adorable animals. Approximately 30 to 40 dogs and cats participated in the photo session, each one bringing joy and excitement to the school community. The event took place during the regular morning drop-off time, running from around 7:40 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., giving families plenty of opportunity to participate before the school day began.
One of the most touching outcomes of this special day was that it led to a dog being adopted from a nearby animal shelter. A family who attended the event decided to welcome a new dog into their home. This morning was truly about giving the dogs and cats of each family their day to be recognized, celebrated, and photographed as the cherished family members they are. the cherished family members they are.
