If you are interested in technical theatre, this program offers an opportunity to explore creativity and collaboration. Since the 1970s, tech theatre has played a vital role in Texas school productions. While actors perform on stage, the technical crew brings each story to life by designing costumes, building sets, managing lighting, and creating soundscapes. All students are welcome to join. To participate, sign up during club week or contact Mr. Gablemann at the drama department office for more information. This is your first step toward joining our dynamic tech theatre team.

You might be asking yourself, why join? Technical theatre is more than just behind-the-scenes work; it is a place to build responsibility, perseverance, and teamwork. Perhaps you are worried about not having the right skills or experience—don’t be. No prior experience is needed, and training will be provided to ensure everyone feels confident and capable in their role. Picture this: during a recent school play, the lighting unexpectedly failed just minutes before the curtain rose. Panic set in, but the crew sprang into action. Amid the pressure, one crew member quickly identified and fixed a missing cable, ensuring the performance went on without a hitch. Moments like these show how working together transforms challenges into achievements. Each person’s unique talents add to a shared sense of purpose, making everyone feel valued and essential to the team’s success.

Not sure where you fit? Even if you still believe that tech theatre is not for you, there is a diverse range of roles awaiting your skills, such as lighting—putting the spotlight on the right people and making sure the lighting is in the correct mode and color. Sound involves adding effects such as wind blowing and background music, making sure everything is set at the right timing, and ensuring the sound does not malfunction. If you want to be a DJ, this is perfect for you. Costumes involve making costumes, fixing them if the fitting is off, and adding or removing details. This is perfect for people who love fashion and designing clothing. Script analysis includes writing scripts and fixing spelling, which is perfect for those who love writing. Setting the stage involves running around and making sure everything is perfect for the next scene. If you are a perfectionist, this is for you. Tech theatre has a place for everyone to feel included and needed. Tre’von Patmon, student of AHJS, stated, “Everyone has a place here, even people who think they don’t.”

Don’t miss out, and join us for an awesome year of creating!
