From Christmas trees to menorahs, the winter holiday is filled with timeless traditions, but the one thing that stays consistent throughout all variations of celebration is presents. The word present derives from both the French word present and the medieval Latin word presentia, which come together to form the English word that can make people all around the world jump for joy. Today, we will take a deep dive into which presentias are most wanted for the upcoming holidays, starting with boys.
Many male attendees share one big connection with each other: sports. Many, like Tate Shalley, have sports equipment as their number one present. “Probably like some baseball equipment,” Tate says.
However, a very close runner-up for boys is clothes. Many, like Tate, have increasingly dirty socks from playing around in the dirt, and others, like Ames Blake, just want some plaid pajamas. “Like, pajama pants… like, seven sets of pajama pants,” Ames tells us.
Lastly, coming in at third place for boys is electronics. From iPads to laptops to even a future car, boys across campus scream and shout for their parents to let them get their hands on some new tech.
Now let’s finally get into what the girls want. Parents, listen up. As a shocker to no one, girls’ number one gift idea is clothes, because you can never have enough clothes. “I really want some new clothes for Christmas,” Evelyn Boylner says enthusiastically.
The runner-up for girls’ best gift idea is sports equipment, which is not quite a shocker considering the numerous talented and athletic girls who attend Alamo Heights. “Another softball bat,” says Hayden Hartman, an amazingly talented multisport athlete.
Coming in at third place for girls is also technology. “A camera… like an iPad with an Apple Pencil… a personal laptop,” Hayden Hartman tells us. I cannot count the number of times I have heard these words, whether from close friends or strangers in the hallway. Hayden is not alone when she says this.
Overall, both boys and girls have very similar wish lists and tastes in gifts. However, I’m sure they will be ecstatic no matter what you give them.
