Have you ever wondered who helps plan school dances, pep rallies, and special events? At Alamo Heights Junior School, the student council plays an important role in building school spirit and supporting the campus community. This article explains what student council is, the experience students gain, and how members contribute to school events.

Opportunities and Experience to Gain
According to Ms. Lopez, one of the teachers who works with the student council, “Student council, it’s about having students in leadership, wanting to help their community whether it be here at school or their surrounding areas.” She also explained, “So they gain experience to give back to their community and see the growth in who our future leaders are, um, as in the school.”

How It Helps with School Events
The student council helps plan school pep rallies, school dances, and parts of school festivals. According to Ms. Lopez, “The school festivals are with administration, so, for example, if there’s school festivals, they will ask us to come and help in a certain way.”

Meeting Schedule
The student council does not have a specific meeting schedule. Meetings are held based on upcoming events. For example, meetings may be scheduled before events such as Valentine’s Day dances. Ms. Lopez said, “When we do have those meetings, we ask students what would they like to see in the particular events. It depends on the events that we have coming up, and so it also depends on the availability of the students.”

Conclusion
Student council helps students learn how to be leaders, build leadership skills, support the school, and give back to the community. Students who are interested in joining need a guardian’s signature. We hope you found this article helpful.
