If you have recently been in the Mule Time Media room, you may have noticed some recent construction. New studio rooms have been added to the class, all in order to better the production of MTM.

Mr. Boylan, the teacher in charge of MTM, says, “For the last year and a half, one of the biggest struggles for Mule Time Media was having enough space,” and “We had a large swath of the room that was really just being used for flexible seating, so I decided that it would be better to have two new studios that we could use to serve those purposes.” As Mule Time Media grows, so does the need for space to record things like videos and podcasts. To produce the best quality and quantity of work, Mr. Boylan decided that this construction would be the best thing for the overall program.

Mr. Boylan adds, “It actually happened a lot quicker than I expected…I was impressed by the price they were able to get me to be able to do, so I decided to advance the plans to make it happen this year.” With the construction finishing after only a few weeks, Mr. Boylan, as well as others, was surprised by the rapid progress of the building and was shocked at how they maintained the classroom environment and focus of the students even while construction was happening during class time.

“They are great spaces for the student journalists to record, edit, and produce their content. By raising the quality of the work, you also raise the expectations that the student journalists can have for themselves and that our audience can have for them.” Mr. Boylan shares that these new spaces will not only benefit students’ work but also their work ethic and the overall quality of their projects. As there is more space, more content will be produced, all because of the reduced time students spend waiting on an open recording studio.

These new studios will have a lasting impact on Mule Time Media and the student journalists who use them. From being used to record interviews to producing podcasts, these rooms allow for multifunctional use, all contributing to the amount of work MTM journalists produce, but most importantly, the quality of the work.
