The book fair is a wonderful place. The shelves are lined with colorful books. The crisp smell of a new book is in the air. There is a wonderful selection, from mystery novels to science fiction, to comics, to romance.
Okay, so books aren’t your thing? The Book Fair has just the thing. We have posters of some of your favorite stars. Fidget pens line the tables, and diaries if you like writing more than reading. There’s a little bit of something for everyone. What’s not to love?
Here at the Alamo Heights Junior School, we have a book fair in the fall and in the spring. Ms. Chasse, the librarian here at the Junior School, organizes Scholastic Books to provide the books for the school. All the proceeds from the book fair go back into the school. So, when you support the Book Fair, you can think of it as charity. She also finds volunteers to help with organizing the books and helping at the checkout register. To get students excited about the Book Fair, Ms. Chasse sends out flyers and emails in Monday Mail, all encouraging the Book Fair.
Another fun part of the book fair is sharing the experience with friends. Students often walk around together, recommending books to each other and talking about some of the books they have already read. Teachers also may create a book recommendation list. This helps students choose some good books they love. The overall experience is good for the heart and for social skills.
In a world where we spend a lot of time on phones and online, being in a good social environment like the Book Fair is good. It gives you a chance to make new friends and bond over books. Even online books are taking over. But personally, you cannot beat the way you flip the pages and smell the book. It’s about finding a good story you cannot put down. Then you finish it and find the next one. And that good feeling starts all over again.
Overall, the Alamo Heights Book Fair is more than a place to buy books. It is a fun social event for you and your friends. It’s a place to escape the devices that surround us. It’s a place to feel real pages. It’s a place where you can support your school and your community. And find your new favorite book.
