Girl Scouts is a place where girls can learn new things, earn badges, and have fun while helping others. I recently interviewed a Girl Scout who has been in the program for eight years, and she shared what her experience has been like.
“So this is my eighth year being a Girl Scout,” she said. “What made me join was, well, my mom was actually a Girl Scout, but she wasn’t able to go as far as me. So she made me join, and then I actually started to like it.”
In Girl Scouts, there are many projects to work on and badges to earn. Right now, she is working on her Silver Award, which is a big project where Girl Scouts create something that helps their community and can last a long time. Her idea is to make a Bronze Award kit to help younger Junior Girl Scouts complete their own projects.
One of her favorite badges was archery. “You learn how to shoot a bow and arrow,” she explained. “My mom was in training to be an archery instructor, so she actually taught us how to do it.”
She also talked about how Girl Scouts teaches important skills like CPR and first aid. One important part of Girl Scouts is the promise to “be a sister to every Girl Scout,” which means being kind and getting to know others.
She says Girl Scouts has really helped her grow and see things differently. “It’s opened up how I see things… you learn all these things.” Overall, Girl Scouts gives girls the chance to learn, try new activities, and make great memories.
