A new animated film explores themes of perseverance and self-belief. “GOAT” follows Will, a small goat who faces significant obstacles in pursuing his athletic dreams. At the start of the movie, Will is an underdog living in a garage and working a mundane delivery job while dreaming of playing in the big leagues of roarball. A student at AHJS, Caroline Percy, observed that, “In the beginning, I felt like it looked like he wasn’t going anywhere.” The beginning of the movie appears to center on whether Will can overcome these social and physical disadvantages to achieve his roarball dreams.
In the beginning of the movie, Will talks about his mother, who passed away a few years ago. He dedicated his dreams to his mom to honor her. His mom was a passionate fan of roarball and worked at the same diner as Will before dying from an illness. As Caroline Percy stated, “Even if you have a big dream, you can still accomplish it.” Will uses his mother’s passing as inspiration to keep pushing forward.
In the middle of the movie, Will takes a big risk by playing against the superstar Mane Attraction. The match goes viral but ends in defeat. Afterwards, he joins the Vineland Thorns team, showing that he is slowly moving closer to achieving his dreams and refusing to give up on what he believes in. This part of the movie shows that even when things don’t go the way you want, you can still learn from your mistakes and keep improving. Will’s determination shows that failure is not the end of everything, but rather it can be a step toward reaching your goals.
Audiences are positioning “GOAT” as family entertainment for kids and parents to watch because it delivers an important message that all audiences can learn from. The message of the movie is that once you set your mind on something or have a dream, you should never give up and always keep trying to achieve it. Caroline Percy summarized the film’s core themes after viewing. “It’s about self-confidence and resilience and to never give up,” Percy stated, identifying what she saw as the movie’s primary message to audiences.
Overall, GOAT is a movie that teaches viewers to believe in themselves and never give up on their dreams. Through Will’s struggles, failures, and wins, the audience learns that hard work and determination can help anyone overcome their challenges. The movie shows that your size or how different you are doesn’t matter, because confidence and believing in yourself matter more than anything else. GOAT leaves people with an important lesson that they can use in their own lives: if you keep trying and believe in yourself, you can achieve your goals.
