In a typical Unified PE class, students partner with special needs peers to play sports and try different activities. They often play basketball, volleyball, football, and soccer, and sometimes  dance or other activities. Amelia Wright, a student in Unified PE, said, “You get to do everything you want,” adding that special needs students get to pick the sport and activity they would like to do each day

Friendship and teamwork

Another important part of Unified PE is building friendships. Partnering with a special needs student gives everyone a chance to trust one another and enjoy activities together. Amelia said, “Getting to trust people and getting to know more friends,” showing how the class helps students form friendships within the classroom. Working together ensures everyone feels included and can have fun while staying active.

Students in Unified PE also enjoy being themselves while helping others grow. Amelia, a student in the class, said, “I like hanging out with other people,” showing how rewarding it is to support their partners as they learn new skills.
