Ever heard of UIL? If you haven’t, UIL is a Texas-based organization that governs extracurricular academic, athletic, and music contests for public high schools and junior highs. It covers sports, academics, and fine arts.

Preparing for choir UIL takes practice, teamwork, and focus. The choir teacher, Ms. Holiday says, “It takes a lot of hard work and preparation. The judges aren’t just listening for correct notes, they want a full musical performance.” One of the most important things is learning your music well. You should know your part and how it fits with the group. Paying attention to things like volume, pronunciation, and tone will help you sound better.

Another important part is taking care of your voice. Always warm up before singing to keep your voice healthy. Good posture and breathing will also help you sing stronger. Practicing outside of class can make you feel more ready and confident. Ms. Holiday says, “Everyday practice matters. Even on days students don’t feel like it, that consistency is what makes contest day easier.”

Finally, doing well at UIL means working together as a team. Choir is about blending voices, not just singing alone. Being positive and supporting each other helps the group improve. On the day of the contest, stay calm and do your best.
