The AHJS tennis team finished its season as district champions in 8th grade and runners-up in 7th grade. The team put in a great deal of time and effort throughout the season, and it paid off. Despite dealing with injuries, the players persevered and continued to compete at a high level.

The team also faced strong competition. Schools such as Lopez, Bradley, and Tejeda challenged both the 7th and 8th grade teams in long, competitive matches. Even in difficult moments, the team never gave up and continued to push forward.

Throughout the season, the team showed significant growth. Head coach Coach Burpo said, “They have developed a lot of good movement.” She also highlighted two players, Raphael Alvarez and James Brouillard. Coach Burpo noted that while Raphael Alvarez struggled with focus at times, he showed a strong desire to be there and improved as the season progressed. James Brouillard was recognized for competing in long and physically demanding matches.

In conclusion, this year’s tennis team proved to be exceptional. They overcame injuries, tough opponents, and pressure, ultimately earning a district championship and a runner-up finish. Their success was not by accident, but the result of the time, effort, and dedication each player brought to the court.
