The Alamo Heights girls soccer team has been a great part of athletics and a great sport for the girls. On the AHJS football field, they practice every day and become better as they prepare themselves for games. Soccer season starts toward the end of the year and also ends close to the end of the year.
Emily Jones, an 8th grader, has been playing soccer since she was little and has played at AHJS. She commits to soccer and is a great team player. “Practice helps improve your skills so you’re able to know what you need to do when you go in for a game.” Emily practices at home and at school because of how much she loves soccer.
While soccer can be a fun and friendly game, there can be a dark side to it as well. In all of Emily’s years of playing soccer, she says that nothing has compared to one injury she got this season. “I got kicked in the shin and I got a hematoma. I had to go to the emergency room, but I was still able to play in the game the next day. It affected me even though it’s pretty much healed. I’ve always been nervous, but the injury made it a little bit worse.” Soccer can be all fun and games until someone gets hurt, but Emily did mention how much her team cared for her that day when she got kicked and how her coach helped her so much.
AHJS soccer may just seem like another one of the AHJS sports programs, but when we took a deeper look into it, we noticed that the game of soccer is not only very hard, but it is a genuine family. But really, what AHJS sport is not a family?
