Celebrating Our Dedicated Faculty at Alamo Heights Junior School

by Ainsley T.

At Alamo Heights Junior School, our faculty and staff are more than just educators; they are the heart of our community. They bring dedication to their work that inspires the lives of our students. Whether it’s a unique lesson, personal attention, or extra support, the AHJS team goes above and beyond to ensure every student feels valued.

Mr. Saldana, Assistant Principal at Alamo Heights Junior School, shared, “What makes our teachers special is what the district does for our teachers. Our district gives teachers the freedom to teach how they want to teach in the order they want to teach.” Of course, teachers must follow the TEKS (which are the standards), but they have a lot of flexibility.

Having a close-knit community at Alamo Heights Junior School is something we love. The faculty and staff connect with the students through good times and bad. “I think it’s the sense of community, the sense of family that we have with each other in good times and bad,” said Ms. Aguirre, Assistant Principal at Alamo Heights Junior School.

One quality that makes our faculty and staff stand out is their love for their job! Ms. Aguirre explained, “The love for our job and the love for the children that we all have. We always do what’s best for the children.”

“I enjoy coming to work. It’s like, I get to go to work today. I get to be with kids, I get to be with teachers,” Ms. Aguirre exclaimed. For our faculty and staff, work doesn’t feel like work—it’s meaningful time spent with students and colleagues! Mr. Saldana shared, “What I enjoy most is that it never feels like work. I know it’s my job, but I just enjoy being with the kids, helping them, helping the teachers, helping the parents.”

What motivates our faculty and staff to do their best is seeing the impact they have on children. Mr. Saldana explained, “Seeing the results from students, knowing that we’re making an impact on kids’ lives and that they’re learning. Teachers go about their day teaching kids, and if they can impact that child, that’s pretty powerful. That’s a great motivator.”

Faculty and staff also love supporting our students in their extracurricular activities. Whether it’s a sports game or a concert, our faculty and staff will be there. They love showing up for students! “We support them in their extracurricular activities. We see staff at football games, choir concerts, band concerts, etc.,” shared Ms. Aguirre.

Our faculty and staff at Alamo Heights Junior School stand out not just for their dedication but for their genuine passion and love for their work. Their dedication, passion, and commitment make them truly special and valuable to our school community. They go above and beyond to ensure every student feels valued and supported, making our school an amazing place!
